Debate - should fidget spinners be allowed in the classroom?

Today we had a debate whether fidget spinners, a much loved toy in this class, should be allowed in the class.

Students got to choose for themselves if they were for or against, and they thought of their own reasons for their argument.

Here are snippets from our debate.

Who do you think had a better argument?

  1. Great work Room 7! We watched this as a class in Room 8 and were very impressed with the language you used and the reasons you came up with! We have been inspired to do our own class debate. I loved how you had mixed groups and tried to give everyone turns at reading/debating. Ka Pai!

    1. Well done room 7 for giving some very convincing arguments. Perhaps you
could have looked at other 'FADs' and how long they lasted, to give another point of view as to whether they were a waste of money and time. Maybe there are health benefits to using spinner? Possibly they help the teacher by being calmers. Just thinking!

  2. Good Morning Room 7,
I think having a fidget spinner at school will be a great idea since it can calm stressed people. It will be great so kids can have a little fun in the class.Sometimes it can be distracting for kids.

  3. Awesome Room 7,
I like how you all had a turn in speaking making our key competencies Participating and Contributing.I think that we shouldn't have fidget spinners because it distracts us when we do work and being rude to teachers.

  10. I still vote for yes because of the big words we tried to use, and the examples also because they were thinking of the expectations and we thought of the reality

  15. Hello Room 7,
I think we did a pretty good job at debating if F.S(Fidget Spinner's) should be allowed in class.
I go for both because it can help you when your stress and it can dirstart others during their learning.

  18. Good work, Room 7 - it's always good to look at both sides of the story - interesting that in my family it is the "older" nieces and nephews who have a fidget spinner and they bought them because they were on the counter at the local dairy! I've tried one and it took a lot of my concentration to make it work so I wouldn't have been listening while I was playing with it (I would be too distracted)!

  21. Hi room 7 I like the way grace said that the other team said that fidget spinners are better than anything else then she said what is important fidget spinners or learning and I like the people against if i was playing with a fidget spinner i would get distracted and I won't concentrate on learning and the teacher would take the fidget spinner off me.
