Then we wrote in our words about the information

Wesley- There was a flu that killed 9,000 New Zealanders. Since 1918 there were three more flu’s in New Zealand pandemics in 1957-1968-2009. Then in 2019 there was the forth pandemic called  Covid-19 which is a Type A virus. .In 2020 we have better living conditions, better ways to communicate (internet, TV, phones) and better hygiene (showering etc) than the people did in 1918 so we are less likely to get a virus like the flu. However, we are increasing our chances of getting a virus because of industrial farming, and international travel.

Michael-By the end of december 1918 a flu killed 9,000 people, and heaps of people died in the war. In NZ the death toll in a few months was a  thousand in the war that took 4 years. There were 3 different pandemics in 1957,1968,2009 and 2019, in New zealand. The virus in 2019 was called covid19 a short word for coronavirus. Covid 19 got nz to alert 4. In nz there were 16 deaths, 1,065 recovered and 1,112 confirmed. But these days we have to stay ½ meters away from people, but we can stay home and have a chitty chat with your friends at your home. In 2020 we have better living conditions, better ways to communicate (internet, TV, phones) and better hygiene (showering etc) than the people did in 1918 so we are less likely to get a virus like the flu. However, we are increasing our chances of getting a virus because of industrial farming, and international travel.

Mariah.l - There was a flu that killed 9,000 new zealanders. 19,000 New Zealanders also died in the war during 1914-1918.
There were 3 more serious flu’s in New Zealand, in 1957-1968 and 2009. Now we have another one in 2019/2020 called (Covid-19) or Coronavirus.16 people died because of (Covid-19).In 2020 we have better living conditions, better ways to communicate (internet, TV, phones) and better hygiene (showering etc) than the people did in 1918 so we are less likely to get a virus like the flu. However, we are increasing our chances of getting a virus because of industrial farming, and international travel.

Eh Htoo- there was a flu that killed a lot of people and there were already a lot of deaths in the war. In New Zealand the death toll in a few months was 9 thousand and in the war that took 4 years were 18  thousand.  There were 3 other one in 1957, 1968, 2009 in 2020 we have better living conditions, better ways to communicate (internet, TV, phones) and better hygiene (showering etc) than the people did in

1918 so we are less likely to get a virus like the flu. However, we are increasing our chances of getting a virus because of industrial farming, and international travel.
. And in 2019 there was another pandemic for the virus COVID-19 (which is also a Type A virus).     In 2020 we have better living conditions, better ways to communicate (internet, TV, phones) and better hygiene (showering etc) than the people did in 1918 so we are less likely to get a virus like the flu. However, we are increasing our chances of getting a virus because of industrial farming, and international travel.

Davlyn- By the end of 1918 there was a flu that killed heaps of people plus deaths of the war. A few months later nearly 9,000 people died there were three other influenza pandemics, in 1957,1968, 2009 and 2019. The flu in 1918 is a virus that is around the world, the virus is called covid 19 the 19 comes from 2019. But these days in 2020 we have ways to communicate and we have better medicine. In 2020 we have better living conditions, better ways to communicate (internet, TV, phones) and better hygiene (showering etc) than the people did in 1918 so we are less likely to get a virus like the flu. However, we are increasing our chances of getting a virus because of industrial farming, and international travel.

Railey- By the end of December 1918, the world's problem was finally over, but sadly there were about 9 thousand and about 18 thousand people in the world and also in the war. But!There were also 3 other influenza pandemics, they started in 1957, 1968 and 2009.and also another virus. But luckily In 2020 we now have better living conditions.  compared 100 years ago. And also another devastating thing that has happened during 2019, there is a virus called Covid-19(type A) and has been spreading all around the world. In 2020 we have better living conditions, better ways to communicate (internet, TV, phones) and better hygiene (showering etc) than the people did in 1918 so we are less likely to get a virus like the flu. However, we are increasing our chances of getting a virus because of industrial farming, and international travel.

HOPE - By the end of December in 1918 the pandemic was over. But there were a lot of deaths. In a few months the death toll was nine thousand, for New Zealand there were about eighteen thousand people that died during the war. There were also three other influenza pandemics and they are 1957, 1968 and 2009.  There was a definite possibility for the outbreak on the scale of the 1918 pandemic. There is also another pandemic called covid - 19 that started in 2019 (It is a novel coronaviru (type A), which is why it's called COVID-19). The Covid - 19 started in china then it started to spread all over the world, In NZ we have 1,112 confirmed, 1,065 and 16 deaths but all worldwide there is 2,682,225 confirmed, 732,647 and 187,330. In 2020 we have better living conditions and better ways to communicate (internet, TV, phones) and better hygiene (showering etc) than the people did in 1918 so we are less likely to get a virus like the flu. However, we are increasing our chances of getting a virus because of industrial farming, and international travel.

Lily U -  In 2020 we have better living conditions, better ways to communicate (internet, TV, phones) and better hygiene (showering etc) than the people did in 1918 so we are less likely to get a virus like the flu. However, we are increasing our chances of getting a virus because of industrial farming, and international travel.

Senitila- In the last month of the year in the 1918 the pandemic was finally over. But there were many deaths. A few months later the death toll has moved to nine thousands, In New Zealand there is

Next we did a timeline activity

It looked like this...

When put in order, it looks like this...

Then we had some comprehension Q+A to do.

Here are Wesley and Davlyn's answers.

Name 3 things that increase the likelihood of a pandemic happening and explain why they do so:
don’t Stay home so you do catch it
Do not shower so you get germs.
 Do not wash your hands
Name 3 things that decrease the likelihood of a pandemic happening and explain why they do so:
Better houses because they are warm.

Explain what a vaccine is and how it works.

Explain what is happening in these pictures - write in your own words.
At the time 1918 there was a deadly flu then people made an unproven spray that would make you not get the flu. Then they started getting more people to get sprayed then a whole lot of people were lining up for the spray but they got the flu for staying next to each other. Then random people and kids went overseas to help the people at the war. Like kids delivering food and adults making coffins.
