First Kiwi-sport of Term 3!

Today we had our first Kiwi-sport session for boxing.
Our coaches name was Pax.

The first thing we did was play a mini game of tag with a buddy.

Next the coaches got us into 3 lines and showed us 'the wall'.

We read through what we would be learning for the lesson.

We learnt a jab.

We learnt a cross.

We buddied up and practised throwing jabs and crosses into each others hands.

Then we lined up with our buddy and had to just do cross jab cross jab as quickly as we could. When the coaches called out burpee, the buddy that was doing the jabs/crosses had to do a burpee.

Lastly we played an elimination game where the coach would call out cross or jab, and if you did the wrong thing you had to do a burpee then sit down.

Mariah and Senitila were the last 2 standing.
Mariah was the winner!

Scatter graphs

Today we learnt about scatter graphs.
You have 2 variables that you are talking about - you need to have a title, label your x and y axis.

We wrote the statement 'Generally, the taller you are, the longer your arms are. The shorter you are, the shorter your arms are.'

Then we went one step further and found out through experiementing with our classmates - that if someone is taller than you, and has a longer arm span than you, they also probably have bigger hands and feet than you. So we added that to our statement.

Sky diving narrative

This week we had to do a narrative about sky-diving.

The first thing we did was set a goal each (this was based on feedback we got from our last narrative we did last term). Miss Ashley wrote these on the whiteboard.

Next we recorded everything we know about sky-diving, which wasn't a lot.

Next we researched the topic to get more complex vocabulary and understand the different steps involved, so our story could be more accurate and realistic.

We watched some Youtube videos - like this one.

Miss Ashley put links on the class site for us to use.
  • Use at least 2 idioms from here.
  • Remember your writing goal from our last narrative (look back in your book for the feedback you were given by a classmate/teacher).
  • Research the steps it takes to do a sky dive, and make sure these are reflected in your plotline of your story.
  • Use lots of sky diving vocabulary

Next we did our planning and then started writing!

Here is everyone's story!

Starting statistics - mean, median, mode and range

For the first 5 weeks of this term we are learning about statistics.

First we had to see what our learning goals are for this unit

For year 7-8's our goals are
  •
  •
  •
  •
  •
  •

The firs thing we learnt how to do was to find the mean, median, mode and range of a data set.

On Tuesday we just did 5 examples as it was our first time and we had a lot to learn. Some people found it very hard to add up all the numbers and divide them.

On Thursday we did 10 more practises with different data sets.

It was awesome to see some students being able to do long division completely by themselves in order to figure out the mean (average).
