Monday Reading - Pandemic page 26

First we revised the words we learnt last week by matching/grouping them together with similar words.

(Completed by Mariah).

We read it through, and any words we don't know, we define them and make a list of them. Then we write this information in our own words.

Strain    -Type of something
Claiming  -Real sickness
Severe  -Undesirable
Haemorrhage - when you bleed inside
Pneumonia  -You're Filled with fluid
Cyanosis  -Skin changes colour.
Fluid - kinda like a water flowing

This flu in 1918 was like the plague because they both go for your lung and then you get less oxygen so your skin changes. The strain was similar to the plague because it changes the skin when they die, the skin changes because the lungs gets flooded with liquid so it is difficult to breathe like the plague but it does not fill up with liquid.

The strain affected ages of 20 to 40 years old.

Then we completed a visual dictionary..

Then we had to complete a visual dictionary, which when completed, looks like this....

Leave a comment below with the most interesting thing you learnt from this lesson!

Maybe about ring-around-a-rosy? Or plague doctors masks? Or 1500's toilet hygiene? Lol.

  4. I found it interesting to learn that plague doctors masks had herbs inside the long nose part - in 2020 we know this wouldn't do much to protect them from the germs, but they did it so they couldn't smell the dying people? A bit sad..

  7. Hi Room 8, It sounds like you have learned a lot about the 1918 Pandemic. I like the way you have looked at the words that were new to you and made sure you understand them. It is interesting looking at the symptoms and how they would impact people. What do you think it would feel like having this Flu?
